먼저 나의 이해를 돕기 위해 항상 시작되는 영어약자 WFUNA의 뜻을 알아보았다. W: World F: Federation of U: United N: Nations A: Associations 오늘은 이영진 사무관님을 만나보았다. 이영진 사무관님은 WFUNA에서 일하시는데 내 꿈도 국제기구 WHO에서 일하는 것이라서 더 설랬다. 사무관님께서 자세히 설명해주신 덕분에 쉽게 이해할 수 있었다. 이번 수업에서는 유엔의 설립과정, 기능, 유엔의 목표, 유엔의 주요기관 등을 알아보았다. 그중에서 나는 유엔의 주요기관이 가장 기억에 남았다. 왜냐하면 대부분 UN하면 UN 그 자체만 생각하지 그 안의 세부적인 기관은 생각하지 않기 때문이다. 그러나 신탁통치이사회는 마지막 신탁통치 지역 팔라우(Palau)가 1994년 미국으로부터 독립하면서 실질적인 기능을 상실하면서 활동도 사실상 멈춘 상태다. 하지만 지금 내전 중인 아프가니스탄이 다른 나라에게 신탁통치를 당하게 된다면 신탁통치이사회가 다시 제 기능을 시작해 아프가니스탄이 자유 국가가 되도록 힘써줘야 될 것 같다. UN의 주요기관 중 안전보장이사회가 인상깊었는데 그중에서도 벽면에 있는 그림이 가장 기억에 남는다. 왜냐하면 그림에는 사람들이 싸우는 모습이 그려져 있었는데 가운데에서 왕이 해결하려고 애쓰는 모습이 안전보장이사회와 잘 어울렸기 때문이다. 다음에 기회가 된다면 꼭 한 번 방문해서 그림을 자세히 관찰해보아야 겠다. 이번 수업은 정말 배운게 많은 수업이었다. UN의 모든 것을 알 수 있는 기회였다. 이 수업을 통해 UN의 중요성을 다시 한 번 깨닫게 된다. 한 가지 아쉬웠던 점은 UN회원국들을 정리한 표를 보지 못했던 거였다. 다음에 또 듣게된다면 그때는 표와 함께 정리해서 보고싶다. I first searched for the meaning of WFUNA for my own understanding. W: World F: Federation of U: United N: Nations A: Associations Today I met Young-jin Lee who works at WFUNA. My dream is to work at WHO, an international organization, so I was very excited. I could easily understand (the class) because he explained things carefully. In this class we learned about the history, purpose, and functions of the UN and the six organizations. What left the biggest impression on me was the part about the six organizations, because we didn’t know that there are six organizations in the UN. One of the organizations is the Trusteeship Council. However it hasn’t been running since Palau, the last trust territory, became independent from the United States in 1994. I think that the Trusteeship Council needs to start running again if Afghanistan becomes a trust territory. What stood out to me among the six principals was the Security Council, because the picture shown matched very well with what the Security Council (is like). In the picture, people were fighting but a king was trying to find a resolution and bring back peace. If I have the chance to visit where the Security Council is, I'd like to go. There were so many things to lean in this lecture. It was a chance to get to know all about the UN. One sad thing was that I didn’t get to see the members of the UN.
