The Busan Metropolitan Government and our Foundation held civic participation-type 「Busan Public Diplomacy Forum」 to attract the 2030 Busan World EXPO on 30th July, at Paradise Hotel. At the forum, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese EXPO experts and college students gathered to share their know-how in promoting EXPO and the economic and cultural inducement effects of the EXPO on the three Northeast Asian countries.
Oh Ryong, who wrote the "Imaginary Exhibition Hall EXPO," pointed out that the three Northeast Asian countries shone on the international stage with hosting EXPO. Korea held the Daejeon EXPO in 1993 to inform the international community that it stood as an industrial powerhouse, and Japan in 1970 and China in 2010 used the EXPO as a catalyst for economic growth. Busan is the best place to host the World EXPO, which presents a vision for the future, and Oh said, "Busan is a city where people gather and industries have developed through the sea, and the innovation and dynamics of the region are perfect for the World EXPO where the world gathers to share a spirit of coexistence and cooperation."
Chang Ji, a professor at Shanghai Bokdan University in China, cited coexistence as the key to the success of the EXPO. Professor Chang said, "The Shanghai EXPO was a starting point for informing the world of China's economic development while recognizing China and the international community on a continuous basis," adding, "The topic is how to solve the common crisis facing humanity in the COVID-19 pandemic, and I hope it will be the 2030 Busan World EXPO."
Tomonori Misono, director of the EXPO Promotion Bureau in Osaka City, Japan, introduced the preparation process for the Kansai EXPO in Osaka in 2025. On Yume Island, an artificial island in the sea in front of Osaka, it will be decorated with the theme of "Design of a Future Society with Shining Life." In particular, we plan to create a new EXPO where the region and the world intersect by properly utilizing green and waterfront spaces. Tomonori also said, "We will create a pavilion (temporary building) with water flowing over the roof to provide a fantastic experience.“
About 200 visitors participated in the forum with interest in the expo until the end, despite the long period of time. Please continue to show a lot of interest in EXPO! The Korea-China-Japan student exchange after the first session will be introduced in the next episode! |
