The Korea Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that the Japanese encephalitis
vector(Culex Pipien) collected in Busan from Jul 20 to 21 accounts for 50 % of the
total mosquito density. Then the disease control agency has issued nationwide
Japanese encephalitis warning. The infected are
asymptomatic or show mere symptoms of fever and headache. However, the symptoms
may progress into high fever, headache, nuchal rigidity, convulsion and 30% of
them even die from the disease. Thus vaccination against Japanese encephalitis
is necessary. Targets of
National immunization program(children between the ages of 12 months and 12
years) should get vaccinated on the standard vaccination schedule. The free
vaccination is available in public health centers
and designated medical institutions nationwide regardless of address.
